Wilmington places second at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE - The Wilmington College men's indoor track & field team picked up two victories in finishing second in the eight-team Otterbein Invitational Saturday.

"I was real pleased with our results," said head coach Ron Combs. "We have a lot of guys that can score at the conference meet. I think we are a better team than we were picked, but we have to go out there and show it."

Senior Mason Metts (Pomeroy, OH/Meigs) won the shot put with a toss of 52-08.25. The throw was the 12th best toss in the country this season. He added a victory in the weight throw with a distance of 51-05.75.

Junior Graham Morgan (Lebanon, OH/Lebanon) and freshman Rickey Schafer (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond) finished second and third, respectively, in the pole vault. Morgan tied for the highest vault of 15-00.75, but finished second as he needed more attempts to clear 14-06.00. Schafer cleared 14-06.00 on his second attempt to place third.

Junior Alex Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) earned second place finishes in the 1000 (2:37.61) and the one mile (4:28.06), while sophomore Jake Sydnor (Batavia, OH/Clermont Northeastern) was second in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:08.21.

Wilmington returns to action on January 26 to compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference South meet at Capital University.
