Metts set new meet record

CEDARVILLE – Senior Mason Metts set a new Cedarville Collegiate Indoor Invitational record as the Wilmington College track teams competed Friday. Despite only taking a select number of athletes to the meet, the men's team finished third of 11 teams, while the women's eighth of 13 teams.

Metts (Pomeroy, OH/Meigs) won the shot put with a record-breaking throw of 51-10.50. The previous mark of 51-02.25 was set in 2008. The Fightin' Quakers added three more event victories in earning the third-place finish.

Derek Kilgo (Charlotte, NC/North Royalton) won the 200 in 23.12, while sophomore Jake Sydnor (Batavia, OH/Clermont Northeastern) was second in the 200 with a time of 23.29. Kilgo added a fourth-place finish in the 55 in a time of 6.73. Junior Graham Morgan(Lebanon, OH/Lebanon) almost eclipsed his personal best with a vault of 14-03.25 in winning the pole vault.

In his only his second day of training, junior Christian Patterson (Cincinnati, OH/Norwood) won the high jump with a distance of 6-06.25. Combs added that Patterson had three nice attempts at 6-08, a mark needed to reach the NCAA indoor championships. Patterson, who is also on the men's basketball team, will have at least one more attempt at qualifying for the championships.

Junior Alek Erwin (Springfield, OH/Northeastern) set a new personal record in the mile, finishing third with a time of 4:26.14.

On the women's side, senior Liz Delehanty (Euclid, OH/Villa Angela-St. Joseph's) set a new personal record in the pole vault with a distance of 10-11.75. Combs added it was the second best vault in the Ohio Athletic Conference this season.

Wilmington returns to the track February 9 in the All-Ohio championships at Otterbein University.
