LaVelle, Arehart lead WC to split

Sophomore Justin Arehart and senior Connor LaVelle each won three of four matches Thursday as the Wilmington College men's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matches at the Wilmington College tennis courts.

Wilmington dropped all three doubles matches in falling to Bethany, 6-3, and then defeated Thomas More, 7-2, in the nightcap.

Arehart (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) won in first singles, 6-2, 7-5, while LaVelle (Athens, OH/Athens) was victorious in second singles, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore Cullan Corcoran (Wilmington, OH/Clinton-Massie) recorded the other WC victory, posting a 6-4, 6-3 win in fourth singles.

Senior Josh Kincaid (Loveland, OH/Goshen) fell in third singles, 6-3, 6-3; senior Jesse Ingels (Morrow, OH/Little Miami) lost in fifth singles, 3-6, 6-1, 10-1; and freshman Ron Sansone rounded out the singles matches with a 6-2, 6-0 loss in sixth singles.

In doubles action, Arehart/Kincaid fell 8-1 in first doubles; Corcoran/LaVelle lost in second doubles, 9-7; and Ingels/Sansone were defeated 8-1 in third doubles.

Wilmington took an early lead with two doubles wins and then dominated singles action in recording its first win of the year.

Arehart/Kincaid come up victorious in first singles, 8-2; and LaVelle/Corcoran won in second doubles, 8-2. In third doubles, Ingels/Sansone fell, 8-5.

In singles action, Arehart won by default; LaVelle won in second singles, 6-2, 7-5; Kincaid was victorious in third singles, 6-0, 6-4; Corcoran won in fourth singles, 6-3, 5-7, 11-9; and Ingels claimed the 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 win in fifth singles. Sansone took a 6-2, 7-6 loss in sixth singles.

Wilmington (1-2) will return to the courts 3:30 p.m. Friday at Capital.
