Hawk, Spraul leads MSWIM to split

LEXINGTON, KY – The Wilmington College men's swimming team split during a tri-meet Saturday, beating Transylvania in Ohio Athletic Conference action and falling to Wittenberg in non-conference action. Final scores were not available at press time.

"It was the first time we ran a full NCAA-style format," said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. "We had great energy throughout. As a coaching staff, we were concerned that we would lose some energy, but we were able to maintain it all meet."

Junior David Hawk (Edison, OH/Mount Gilead) won two individual events and a relay, while sophomore David Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) was victorious in two individual events to lead the Fightin' Quakers.

"Both of them have been swimming well," said Breen. "(Spraul) had an injury this week that limited him in practice, but he swam well."

Hawk continued his strong start to the season, winning the 100 freestyle (49.05) and the 200 freestyle (1:49.35). He added his third victory, teaming with freshman Anton Blomquist (Stockholm, Sweden/Solna), Jason Prible (Bluffton, IN/Bluffton) and Mason Harris (Westerville, OH/Central) to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:21.00).

Wilmington's other 400 relay team of Spraul, Alex Tillapaugh (Wilmington, OH/Wickenberg (AZ)), Wyatt Henderson (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union) and Carter Semenchuk (Rockford, IL/Hononegah) finished second (3:26.78)

Spraul picked up his individual wins in the 100 backstroke (55.90) and the 200 backstroke (2:02.56). Blomquist (22.66) edged out teammate Erik Spraul, 22.73, (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) to win the 50 freestyle.

Wilmington hosts Hiram Saturday at the Wilmington Natatorium.
