MSOC facing crossroads after JCU loss

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – After falling the John Carroll Saturday, 4-0, the Wilmington College men's soccer season stands at a crossroad. Three games into the Ohio Athletic Conference season, WC is still looking for its first win and needs to string together some positive results soon.

"Now comes a critical point in our conference," said Wilmington head coach Bud Lewis. "We need some wins fast or it can be a short season."

Senior Martin Holmquist (Karlstad, Sweden / Alvkulle Gymnasiet) registered Wilmington's only goal. The penalty kick have the Fightin' Quakers the lead in the game's eight minute. Unfortunately, the Blue Streaks retaliated in relative quick fashion.

John Carroll recorded the equalizer in the 11th minute on a penalty kick, and then took the lead in the 14th minute. They added two second half goals to put the game away.

"I am a little disappointed to give up two second-half goals," said Lewis. "We had enough chances to score three to four goals. We had some good looks, we just failed to do the little things."

Senior Daniel Wicks (Cincinnati, OH/Reading) made eight saves in facing 12 shots.

Wilmington (5-6-2 overall, 0-2-1 OAC) returns home 7 p.m. Tuesday for a crucial meeting with Capital in OAC action.
