With Ohio Athletic Conference play on the horizon, the Wilmington College men's soccer team is heading in the right direction.

"We are getting closer," said head coach Bud Lewis. "We showed a lot more composure today. We are certainly going in the right direction. It was definitely a confidence builder. Case is a really strong program with good technical skills. I was particularly pleased with Martin Holmquist and Jeff Graham in the back. We also had the emergence of another player, Aaron Basford."

Senior Daniel Wicks scored his first two goals of the season helping the Fightin' Quakers hand Case Western Reserve its first loss of the season Saturday, 2-1, in non-conference action at Charlie Gilhart Field.

He was able to get the scoring going in the 22nd minute. After a scrum in the box, including a collision with the goalkeeper, Wicks was able to swoop in and knock the loose ball past the goal line. Wicks had several more chances in the first half to build on the WC lead, but the Spartans' goalkeeper made some stellar saves.

Case scored its lone goal in the 27th minute as they scored on a penalty kick. The foul in the box was away from the play.

Wicks' second goal, the game-winner, came after he corralled a shot off the bar, settled it and nailed an absolute rocket from the top of the box. The shot hit the bottom of the bar and slid into the back of the net in the 56th minute.

Senior Anton Niklasson recorded three saves for the victory.

Wilmington (3-6-1) remains home for its final non-conference game of the season, hosting Thomas More at Charlie Gilhart Field.
