Quakers shutout by Centre

DANVILLE – The Wilmington College men's soccer team dropped its third straight game, falling to Centre 4-0 in non-conference action. It was the second time in three games, and the third time this season, the Quakers have been shutout.

"We're pressing right now," said head coach Bud Lewis. "Nothing is easy for us. We put a lot of pressure on them, and at times it looked as if Wilmington was the better team. But it doesn't make a difference. The only thing that matters is the score. We are not creating chances in the striking third. When they got the ball they were dangerous."

The game was closer than the score indicates as Centre scored three goals in the final 17 minutes of the game.

Centre took the lead in the 23rd minute with a goal that Lewis indicated was a crossing shot that hit the post and found the back of the net.

"We came out play well 25 minutes," said Lewis. They had some good chances, but Anton made some good saves to scoreless. But it's the same old problem of not being dangerous."

Wilmington had a few scoring opportunities in each half, but couldn't manage a goal.

Evan Schlagetter and Daniel Wicks recorded two shots each for the Quakers as they were outshot, 17-9
