The tone was set from the outset as Trine won the opening face-off, scored 24 seconds later and never trailed in dropping Wilmington, 20-6, in non-conference action.


Trine's face-off specialists accounted for gaining possession with winning 80 percent of the face-off battles and had a near perfect tally in the clear department with 28 of 29 successful clears which positioned them well to control tempo and to be on the attack.

Kirby Dearth (Hilliard, OH/Darby) had another notable performance, recording a hat trick. Fellow offensive partner Alex Gossard (Galloway, OH/Hilliard Bradley) netted a goal, an assist and continued to show why he directs traffic so well for the Quaker attack. Jalen Jackson (Hilliard, OH/Bradley) had an unusually quiet day in the midfield, although he scored twice and assisted on the Gossard goal.

It appeared the Quakers had a tough time figuring out how to break Trine's midfield and were unable to push transition as they normally do. Ian Hamilton (Springboro, OH/Springboro) found himself walking the ball up without many options to clear which resulted in 5 turnovers when he wasn't able to find Garyck Todd (Pickerington, OH/Central) or Austin Johnston (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Bradley) to push transition.

Todd and Johnston each had four clears a piece and put in a tremendous effort on the defensive end to slow down Trine's attack. While Hamilton had the extra responsibility of handling the ball more often than normal, he turned in a respectable scoresheet recording 20 saves.

The Quakers return to action when they visit Hiram on 7 p.m. Tuesday.
