BEREA – The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team dropped the ball on the road Saturday with a 10-7 loss to Baldwin Wallace.

The Quakers were unable to string together two full games of being fully alert and attentive for all four quarters as they had been in their previous game earlier this week. Baldwin Wallace jumped all over the Quakers in the opening two minutes notching two scores and taking command of the game from the onset before head coach Domenic Marzano called a timeout to refocus his squad.

Jalen Jackson (Hilliard, OH/Bradley) and Kirby Dearth (Hilliard, OH/Darby) continued their stellar seasons leading the Quakers back in to the game with their offensive exploits scoring all of Wilmington's seven goals on the day. Jackson finished with a team-high four goals, while Dearth contributed with four goals.

After giving up two early goals in the first two minutes of play, the game was played neck and neck with both teams exchanging goals. Wilmington was able to climb back in to the game before the score got away from them.

"We made another mental error that we can't afford to make and need to play a game from start to finish which has been an issue for us all season," said Marzano. "Every game we have a period of two, three minutes that we let up mentally and give up a couple of goals unnecessarily."

Ian Hamilton (Springboro, OH/Springboro) made 22 saves and kept the Quakers in the game despite Wilmington being outshot 54-27 as well as allowing Baldwin Wallace to handily win much of the ground ball battle 46-24.

"We need to sharpen up mentally and be more disciplined with the ball," said Marzano. "We are still making way too many unforced turnovers by standing still when passing and catching. This is a problem we must fix in order for us to improve as well as putting away our scoring opportunities."

Wilmington stayed in the game regardless of what the statistical figures would suggest and pulled to within one goal of tying the game with nearly 5:00 minutes left in the fourth quarter when it was 8-7. Baldwin Wallace capitalized off and unforced turnover that led to a fast break goal giving them a two-goal cushion deep in to the fourth quarter that was mentally difficult to overcome for the Quakers. Baldwin Wallace added another insurance goal shortly after, and the Quaker's fate was sealed.

Wilmington continues their two-game road stretch 4 p.m. Wednesday against Division II Walsh.
