Hermann Madness kicks off season

With Hermann Court rocking Monday night, the Wilmington College community kicked off basketball season with Hermann Madness. The event was organized by students in Wilmington's Sport Management major.

The event kicked off with the women's basketball team claiming the dance competition, besting the men's basketball and football teams.

Junior Haley Howard and senior Malcolm Heard II claimed the three-point shootout for their respective teams with Heard winning the head-to-head battle. Junior Taylor Wellman and freshman Brittany Jefferson fell to students Frank Ellison and Evander Johnson in a 2-on-2 game. Wellman and Jefferson had the drunk goggles disadvantage.

In a game of knockout, junior Lorenzo Harris besting Kirsten Glick, Olivia Hicks, Mikey Spraul, Dwight Johnson and Bethany Ahrens.

The finale of the event was the dunk contest with Heard, Christian Patterson, Zach Layne-Wolf and Law Williams. While Williams had the most creative attempt, catching a lob for the stands, favorites Heard and Patterson advanced to the finals. After Patterson, finished his between the leg dunk ala J.R. Rider, Heard dunked over 5-10 Cameron Bridgewater to claim the win.

Wilmington's women kick off the season 6 p.m. Friday in the Damon's/Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament, while the men's team travels to the Mount St. Joseph tournament starting 8 p.m. Saturday.
