MEN'S PREVIEW: Otterbein

Coming off a tough home loss Saturday, the Wilmington College men's basketball team must turn its focus to ending the rest of the regular season on a strong note and take as much momentum into the posteseason.

The loss cost the Fightin' Quakers a long shot at claiming the top seed in the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament, but realistically, Wilmington was more than likely destined for the third seed, regardless of the Baldwin Wallace outcome.

Now its time to turn the focus on an Otterbein team that has struggled this season at 4-17 overall, 3-11 in the OAC. Although the Cardinals sport a less than stellar record, don't anticipate Wilmington overlooking them as they point to the end of the season. The Fightin' Quakers end the season with two teams currently on their heels in the standings – John Carroll and Ohio Northern – and the league leader in Mount Union.

"I don't think that is going to be the mindset coming off a loss," said Wilmington head coach K.C. Hunt. "We realize that anyone in this league can beat if you are not ready to play. We just have to have a focus leading into Wednesday's game."

Otterbein is lead by a pair of guards, Jake Bischoff and Jake Phillis, who are accounting for 41 percent of the team's scoring. Bischoff is leading the team with 15.6 points per game, while Phillis is recording 14.2 points for the Cardinals. Between them, they are taking 46 percent of the team's three-point shots and 40 percent of the free throws.

Another guard, Matt Rhodes, is averaging 10.4 points per game.

"Their guards are really good," said Hunt. "The freshman, Phillis. has had some good games, and of course, Jake Bischoff is one of the better good guards in the league. We have to be conscious of those guys as a group, making them take tough shots all night long."

But Wednesday's game is more about Wilmington returning to the form that enabled them to start the calendar year by winning five of six games.

"We have to get back to basics of ball movement and player movement," said Hunt. "We have become real stagnant in the last couple of games and we are really going to concentrate on that in practice. In our last game, we really shared the basketball and had good possessions on offense, which really allowed us to set up our defense. When you play well offensively, it allows us to get into our press. Our pressure really bothered them the first time around, and hopefully it will again this time around."
