MEN'S PREVIEW: Ohio Northern

It's was almost a month between losses for the Wilmington College men's basketball team, so how they react will be a challenge for the Fightin' Quakers. Wilmington concludes the first portion of the Ohio Athletic Conference schedule 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by traveling to Ohio Northern.

The Polar Bears are coming off a 72-71 victory at Capital Saturday, but has lost three of their last five games.

"I think it's going to be an interesting challenge, having not come off a loss in a while," said Wilmington head coach K.C. Hunt. "We had a good day of practice yesterday, and we need to have another good one today. Anytime you go on the road it's going to be a challenge. Northern has been really good at home so we are going to have to strap it on and bring our 'A' game.

"Ohio Northern is a very veteran basketball team with some tried, true and tested all-league players in Dominique Royal and Branden Rushton," Hunt continued. "They are two really good players. They start three seniors and two juniors, it's going to be a challenge against a really tough and gritty group."

Rushton leads the team with 16.2 points per game, shooing 48 percent from the field. He is also making 50 percent (26-of-52) from beyond the arc. Royal is second on the team with 12.2 points per game and leads the team with 5.1 rebounds.

"They are two guys that can take you off the bounce as well as hit an open jump shot," said Hunt. "We have to be urgent to guard those guys all game long."

Junior Lucas Pennington is also averaging double figures with 10.8 points. He has taken a team-high 89 three-pointers, making 33.7 percent. Junior guard Isaiah Roux leads the Polar Bears with 64 assists.

While Ohio Northern presents its share of challenges, Hunt believes the outcome of the game depends more what his team does.

"There are a lot of things we have to fix," he said. "Our shot selection right now isn't very good. We are not tough enough, not urgent enough getting to shooters. We just have to get better. We have 10 games to go in the season, and we need to continue to get better so we are playing our best basketball at the end of the season.
