MEN'S PREVIEW: Heidelberg

MEN'S PREVIEW: Heidelberg

For the first time in two weeks, the Wilmington College men's basketball team returns to the court as they travel to face an improved Heidelberg team.

The Student Princes (4-6 overall, 0-3 OAC) are more of a guard-dominated team this season, led by a trio of double-figure scoring guards. Freshman Deonte Holder comes off the bench to lead the team with 14.2 points per game, while senior transfer Keith Mackie is second with 11.4 points per contest. Nearly half of their attempts have come from beyond the arc. Holder is shooting 45.5 percent (20-of-44) from three-point range, and Mackie is making 39.6 percent (19-of-48) of his long-range attempts.

"They have three solid perimeter players and a solid four-man in Jackson Blue," said Wilmington head coach K.C. Hunt. "They are a totally different basketball team (from last year). A new coach and new system, and at the end of the day, they are competing at a higher level. They are a good, solid basketball team and we will have to execute for 40 minutes."

Senior guard Mike Petrie is adding 10.3 points per game, while Blue is chipping in with 7.6 points and 5.0 rebounds, which is second on the team.

Wilmington will have to handle to different pressures the Student Princes plan to employ.

"We have to turn their pressure into advantage situations, and finish when we have the opportunities," said Hunt.
