Coming off possibly the biggest regular season win in school history, the Wilmington College men's basketball team has a quick turnaround as it prepares for its home opener Tuesday. (Game Notes)

Despite beating Division I Miami, don't expect the Fightin' Quakers to look past the 1-2 Thomas More Saints.

"If we are looking past anybody, shame on us," said Wilmington head coach K.C. Hunt. "We still don't have a Division III win. That is how I am approaching it. It's our home opener. I really think we are going to come out with an edge and really be ready to play."

Thomas More comes into the game after recording its first win of the season, a 105-97 victory over Transylvania. Three different players, including reigning Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Year D'Carlo Hayes, tallied career highs in the victory over the Pioneers. Hayes tallied 33 points, while junior guard Drew Mumford added 31. Between the two, they attempted 36 of the team's 63 shots in the game. They also marched to the free throw line 22 of the team's 33 attempts.

Mumford is leading the team with 24.7 points per game on 62.7 percent shooting, while Hayes is adding 15.0 points per game. Hayes is one of three players averaging 2.0 assists.

"They have some very talented kids," said Hunt. "Mumford and Hayes can really play, so we have to really be aware of those two guys. (The Saints) present a challenge with their athletic ability and the way they push the basketball ball. They play fast. They start five guards. Kind of a key to the last game as well is transition defense. We have to do a great job in transition and guard from the paint out. We have to take advantage of our size, pound the glass and get the ball inside."

Wilmington will have additional reasons to not take the Saints for granted. The Fightin' Quakers blew a 16-point halftime lead and fell to Thomas More at the Connor Convocation Center. WC committed a season-high 30 turnovers in the loss.

"Not exactly a high point of last season, up 16 at the half and we imploded," said Hunt. "I think we definitely have to take care of the basketball, and be real solid with it. We make good, solid basketball decisions and I think good things will happen for us tomorrow."
