Candella named Academic All-District

Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has honored Wilmington College men's basketball player Brandon Candella for his exploits in the classroom.

Candella (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) was named to the 2012-13 Capital One Academic All-District men's basketball team today (January 31, 2013). He now moves to the National ballot.

The team is selected CoSIDA members in their respective districts. Capital One has the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.

"It's a tremendous accomplishment for a great student like Brandon," said head coach K.C. Hunt. "It's great to see him get recognized for the things he does off the court as well."

He holds a 3.74 GPA in Business and Sport Management. This isn't his first academic honor of his career; Candella earned Academic All-OAC honors last season.

The senior forward leads the team in scoring with 15.6 points per game and has scored in double figures in all but one game this season. His 4.3 rebounds per game are second on the team. Candella is one of five players selected from District 7, which includes Division III teams from Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.

Candella needs just eight points to become the 24th player in Wilmington College history to score 1,000 points in his career. He already reached personal statistical landmarks for a season. His 98 field goals are the most in any of his previous three seasons.

Wilmington (10-10 overall, 7-6 OAC) travels to Berea, OH 3 p.m. Saturday to face the Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets.
