Heard named OAC Player of the Week

AUSTINTOWN – Wilmington College men's basketball player Malcolm Heard II was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the term ending February 10, the league announced today.

It's the second time this season Heard has earned the conference's weekly honor, claiming the award two weeks ago. It's the third time a WC men's basketball player was honored by the OAC as sophomore Dwight Johnson (Dayton, OH/Jefferson) was the award recipient on January 5.

Heard (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) helped the Fightin' Quakers to a 2-0 week by averaging a double-double. He scored 18.5 points with 12.5 rebounds over the course of Wilmington's win. The junior forward tied a career-high with 15 rebounds in Wednesday's victory over Otterbein. He also had the biggest play of the game as his steal and assist with seven seconds remaining led to the winning basket.

Wilmington (12-11 overall, 9-7 OAC) enters the final week of the regular season in position to earn one of the two single byes in the OAC tournament. The Fightin' Quakers travel to Ohio Northern 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. A victory clinches at least the fourth seed in the postseason tournament.
