BEREA, OH – Senior Brandon Candella became the 24th member of Wilmington's 1,000-point club Saturday, but the Wilmington College men's basketball team fell to Baldwin-Wallace, 70-62, at the Ursprung Gymnasium in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

With the first of two free throws with 30 seconds remaining in the first half, Candella (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) scored the milestone point.

"I am very proud of B.C.," said head coach K.C. Hunt. "It's a testament of the kind of career and the type of person he is. It's also a testament to this ability as a player and the players he has played with in his career."

Wilmington had several chances late to take over the game. The Fightin' Quakers missed the go-ahead three-pointer with 2:22 remaining, and had two turnovers in the final 1:32 that enabled the Yellow Jackets to pull away down the stretch. WC is now 1-10 on the season when allowing at least 70 points and 2-7 when trailing at halftime.

"We didn't execute down the stretch, it wasn't just one person," said Hunt. "We have to get better at making winning plays as a team."

Both teams shot the ball extremely well in the opening 20 minutes as they combined for 76 points. Wilmington, despite shooting 52 percent from the field, trailed by eight points at the break. In the second stanza, both the shooting percentages and scoring dropped. The two teams scored just 28 points each.

"We had a lot of the same looks (in the second half), we just didn't finish them," said Hunt. "BW is a physical team, but we just have to finish a little better around the basket. Ultimately, everything that we wanted to accomplish is still in front of us."

With the loss, Wilmington (10-11 overall) falls into a three-team tie with John Carroll and Mount Union for fourth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Fightin' Quakers knocked off both teams in the first swing through conference play and still have both on the slate as the regular season winds down.

Junior Malcolm Heard II (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) finished with 16 points and a team-high five rebounds, snapping his string of three-straight 20-point performances. Junior Jordan Berlin (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) added 10 points for the Green & White.

Wilmington has a pair of home games this week, hosting Otterbein 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and John Carroll 3 p.m. Saturday. Saturday's game will mark the final home regular season game for the team's five seniors.
