Football ninth by coaches, 10th by media

CANTON – The Wilmington College football team was picked to finish ninth by the OAC coaches and tenth by the OAC media today (August 6, 2014) at the 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference Media Day held at the National Football Hall of Fame.

"The preseason polls are what they are," said Wilmington head coach Stacey Hairston. "They are based on last year's finish, and there was no real surprise. I am looking forward to playing the games."

Both the coaches and media picked National runners-up Mount Union to claim the OAC championship. John Carroll, who finished last season 9-2, was picked to finish second and garnered six first-place votes from the media.

In the coaches poll, Mount Union (81 votes, 9 first place) and John Carroll (73, 1) were followed by Heidelberg (65), Ohio Northern (52), Baldwin Wallace (50), Otterbein (44), Muskingum (27), Capital (24), Wilmington (19) and Marietta (11).

In the media poll, Mount Union (336 votes, 30 first place) and John Carroll (304, 6) were followed by Heidelberg (266), Ohio Northern (225), Baldwin Wallace (208), Otterbein (190), Capital (111), Muskingum (99), Marietta (76) and Wilmington (55).

Two student-athletes – juniors Tarrell Starckey (Richmond, VA/Highland Springs) and Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller) – represented the Fightin' Quakers at the annual event.

Wilmington reports to fall camp Wednesday, August 13 in preparation for the 2014 season.
