Duncan, Starckey net programs top honors

The Wilmington College football program honored its student-athletes recently at an awards banquet held on campus.

Sophomores Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller) and Tarrell Starckey (Richmond, VA/Highland Springs) earned the top honors being named Most Outstanding Offensive and Defensive Player, respectively.

Duncan, who earned first-team All North Region by d3football.com, led the Ohio Athletic Conference in receiving with 118.4 yards per game with eight touchdowns. He set a league single-game record with 327 yards against Muskingum. Duncan was also earned the OAC's Ed Sherman Receiver of the Year.

Starckey, in his first season at Wilmington, led the league with 126 tackles and was seventh with 10.5 tackles for loss. He was also a first-team All-OAC selection.

Freshman Zak Kruer (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) was named Most Outstanding Freshman Offensive Player, while freshman Tim Lee (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester) earned Most Outstanding Freshman Defensive Player of the Year.

Kruer led the team with 507 yards on 144 carries and registered all three of the team's rushing touchdowns. Lee was third on the team with 53 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.

Freshman Trent Waters (Bowling Green, OH/Bowling Green) earned the Most Improved Award. The 5-6 Waters changed positions from running back to linebacker, and starting the last four games of the seasons.

Senior quarterback and punter Brandon Arehart (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) was the most decorated player at the banquet. The four-year starter earned the prestigious Quaker Award, along with the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player and the Captains Award.

Seniors Kyle Akers (Sabina, OH/East Clinton), Donnie Ary (Jamestown, OH/Greeneview) and Chris Ferguson (Springfield, OH/North) also earned the Captains Award.

Not only were athletic achievements recognized, but the program acknowledged the Top 10 Academic Performances. Arehart, Akers, freshman Levi Myers (Shiloh, OH/Plymouth) and Alex Koyfis (Kristianstad, Sweden / Soderportgymnasiet) all earned 4.0 grade point averages. Rounding out the Top 10 were freshman Nate Bush (Mt. Gilead, OH/Mt. Gilead), junior Jeremy McCoy (Santa Paula, CA/Santa Paula), freshman Lee Turner (Waynesfield, OH/Waynesfield-Goshen), junior Matt Stooksbury (Centerburg, OH/Highland), junior Scott Duncan (Liberty Township, OH/Lakota East) and freshman Aroyal Wright (Cincinnati, OH/Newport (KY)).
