BEXLEY - After failing behind early, the Wilmington football team battled back - but an untimely turnover cost them as the Fightin' Quakers fell to Capital Saturday, 41-27, in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

On Wilmington's first drive of the second half, with the game tied at 20, a Brandon Arehart interception at midfield was returned to set the Crusaders up inside the redzone. Five plays later, Capital reclaimed a lead it wouldn't relinquish. CU added another touchdown on its next possession to take a 14-point advantage.

Arehart connected with sophomore Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller), capping a five-play, 43-yard drive, on a  24-yard touchdown pass. It was the second touchdown connection between the pair. They got the WC scoring underway with a 69-yard pass early in the second quarter.

Wilmington pulled to within one score on its next drive. The Fightin' Quakers drove 76 yards on seven plays, capped by a 33-yard pass from Arehart to Kyle Akers (Sabina, OH/East Clinton). Sophomore Tarrell Starckey got the defense involved in the scoring on a 69-yard fumble return. It was the first defensive score of the season for WC.

Arehart finished 20-of-40 for 355 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.  Twelve of his 20 completions went to Duncan, who finished with 192 yards and two touchdowns. Duncan finished the season with 70 receptions for 1,184 yards, becoming the first WC receiver to eclipse the 1,000-yard barrier since Jon Cain in 2000.

Freshman Zak Kruer (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) ran for a career-high 95 yards on 21 carries.

Senior Aaron Day (Cincinnati, OH/Walnut Hills) finished with 15 tackles, five for loss, three sacks and two forced fumbles. Starckey added nine tackles and two fumble recoveries, including one for the aforementioned score.

Wilmington wrapped the season at 0-10.
