AUSTINTOWN — Wilmington College senior fullback Brett McEvoy and sophomore quarterback Brandon Arehart have received Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors, the league office announced today.

McEvoy was an Academic All-OAC selection while Arehart was an honorable mention pick.

To qualify, a student-athlete must have maintained a 3.25 grade point average, be a sophomore academically and is in at least his second year of participation. He must also have been a starter or key reserve who has made a significant athletic impact. The conference's faculty athletic representatives vote upon the recipients.

"When players come to our school, I tell them all that the most important thing is for them to walk up on stage and get that degree," Wilmington head coach Ken Minor said. "If they do it with flying colors, dean's list and all-conference, it's even better."

McEvoy (Pickerington/Pickerington North) is a math education major with a 3.7 GPA. He was an Academic All-OAC pick in 2010 and was tabbed Academic All-OAC Honorable Mention in 2009. On the field this season he was an All-OAC Honorable Mention pick. McEvoy also has received academic honors as a member of the WC baseball team, earning Academic All-OAC recognition in 2011 and Academic All-OAC Honorable Mention honors in 2009.

"Brett sets such a great example in the classroom and on the field," Minor said. "He shows people how to study, how to practice, how to prepare and how to play. We are certainly going to miss his leadership next year."

Arehart (Wilmington) is a biology/pre-med major with a 4.0 GPA. The conference honor is his first. On the field, the sophomore quarterback has passed for more than 3,100 yards and tossed 19 touchdown passes in his first two collegiate seasons.

"With Brandon being in pre-med, it's really a tribute to him that he has been able to maintain that 4.0 average," Minor said. "If anybody would have an excuse not to be studying because he is working on his football and studying films, it would be Brandon. But he has never missed a beat as a student or as an athlete."
