COLUMBUS — Wilmington College graduate and former WC assistant football coach Tim Hinton has joined Urban Meyer's staff at The Ohio State University, the Columbus Dispatch reported Tuesday.

Hinton began his collegiate coaching career as a student assistant at Wilmington College (1981-84). The Amanda, Ohio, native worked with Wilmington's tight ends and receivers, and helped the Quakers win two league titles and earn a pair of berths in the NAIA national playoffs.

A 1982 Wilmington College graduate, Hinton was head coach at Zane Trace, Van Wert and Marion Harding high schools. In 11 seasons in Marion, his Harding teams won five conference championships and appeared in five state playoffs and two regional finals. In 1995, he was named Ohio Division I Co-Coach of the Year.

Prior to his tenure at Marion Harding, Hinton was an assistant coach with Ohio University and The Ohio State University. In 2004, he returned to the collegiate ranks as running backs coach at University of Cincinnati.

In 2010, Hinton migrated to South Bend, Ind., when Cincinnati head coach Brian Kelly was named head coach at Notre Dame.

At Ohio State, Hinton is expected to coach tight ends and might be named the Buckeyes' recruiting coordinator.

Hinton will be working for a coach who appears ready to share his winning style with the Buckeyes. Meyer met with OSU's non-seniors early Tuesday morning, a day after the Buckeyes lost to Meyer's former employer — Florida — in the Gator Bowl.
