Quakers swept in home finale

The Wilmington College baseball team scored one run in their home finale as the Quakers were swept Saturday, 10-1 and 8-0, in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Tewksbury-Delaney Field.

Cameron Schwalbach (Circleville, OH/Circleville) raced home with the team only run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth in the opener. Wilmington recorded hits in four of its seven innings, however, none in the scoring fourth.

Roenick Whitney (Goshen, OH/Goshen) and Schwalbach opened the inning with back-to-back walks. A failed sacrifice attempt nabbed Whitney at third. Another fielder's choice put runners on the corners with two outs, and Schwalbach scored on the aforementioned wild pitch.

Whitney finished the game 2-for-2 with a walk, whileMax Ramsey (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) for 2-for-3 with a double.

Hunter Justus (Circleville, OH/Logan Elm), who fell to 1-8 on the season, allowed four earned runs in 3 1/3 innings on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Wilmington received all three of its hits from the designated hitter position in the nightcap. Justus was 2-for-2 and Mike Orahood (South Vienna, OH/Northeastern) was 1-for-2 stepping in for Justus.

Mount Union scored three runs in the first and third innings off starter Jake Vinkovich (Circleville, OH/Circleville) and two runs in the sixth inning off reliever Billy Foster (Xenia, OH/Xenia). Vinkovich (0-6) yielded six runs (five earned) in five innings on eight hits with three walks and a strikeout.

Wilmington (5-30 overall, 1-15 OAC) wraps up the season Friday as they travel to No. 8 Marietta.
