13 spring athletes earn Academic OAC honors

AUSTINTOWN – The Ohio Athletic Conference has released its spring All-Academic honor roll for the 2013-14 season today (May 13), and Wilmington has 13 student-athletes honored.

The award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.

Senior track runner Anna Benton (Xenia, OH/Dominion Academy) was the only WC student-athlete to record a perfect 4.0 GPA. She is an agriculture major. Three other women’s track & field athletes landed spots on the All-Academic team, giving them a school-high four honoree. Junior Tricia Steffen (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union; 3.95, Sport Management/Education), junior Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Libery Salem; 3.79, Biology-Health Science) and sophomore Mary Krebs (Dayton, OH/Kettering Alter; 3.89, Education) were the other members.

Women’s lacrosse and softball each had three student-athletes on the honor roll. Leading the lacrosse contingent was junior Angela Phillips (Dayton, OH/Northmont), who finished with a 3.70 GPA in education. Sophomores Abby Jude (Lancaster, OH/Fairfield Union; 3.66, Biology) and Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana; 3.66 Agriculture/Business Administration) were also honored.

The three softball honorees were junior Jess Clutter (Englewood, OH/Northmont; 3.94, Psychology), senior Danielle Monnier (Houston, OH/Houston; 3.69, Education) and sophomore Jessie Stewart (Fredericktown, OH/Highland; 3.51, Business Administration).

Senior baseball player Brandon Arehart (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) recorded the highest male GPA, earning a 3.98 in Biology-Health Sciences. Sophomore Clay Cleaver (Pleasant Plain, OH/Little Miami; 3.73, Education) joined Arehart from the baseball team.

Senior Jordan Steinke (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester; 3.68, Sport Management) was the lone member from the men’s lacrosse team.
