Women's Track & Field Heads to Heidelberg Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's track & field team will compete at the Heidelberg Invitational hosted by Heidelberg University on Saturday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

The Teams: Wilmington will be joined host Heidelberg along with other Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) member Marietta College. Adrian College, Wittenberg University represent the other NCAA Division III schools in attendance. The University of Findlay, Northern Michigan University, Lake Erie College, Ohio Dominican University, Tiffin University and Cedarville University will also be in attendance.

The Coach: Ron Combs enters his 19th season as the head coach of Wilmington's men's and women's track and field teams. Combs has been named Coach of the Year, twice by the Heartland Athletic Conference, and once by the OAC. In 2002, he led the men's indoor team to a sixth-place finish at NCAA DIII Championships.

Who to Watch – Track Events: Emma Burke tallied runner-up finishes in both the 100-meter hurdles (16.03 seconds) and 200-meter hurdles (1:07.02) at the Pioneer Invitational two weekends ago and both marks stand as team bests through two outdoor events. Brooke Gibbons as the Quakers' top marks in the 1,000-meter run (2:40.23) and the 1,500-meter run (5:17.76) as the first came at the Cedarville Invitational last week and the later at the Pioneer Invitational. In distance events, Katie Hughes, in the 5,000-meter run (19:54.3) and Savannah Rhodes, in the 10,000-meter run (43:53.01) are scheduled to compete this weekend.

Who to Watch – Field Events: Kayli Sullivan posted team-best marks in the shot put (37' 2 ¼") and the hammer throw (140' 6") at the Pioneer Invitational two weekends ago. She, along with Morgan Loomis, posted Wilmington's best numbers in the discus and javelin respectively at Cedarville last weekend.
