Women's track placed fifth at Centre

DANVILLE, KY – Three different athletes scored in two events as the Wilmington College women's track and field team finished fifth of 14 teams at the Centre Twilight.

"I am happy with the women's performance," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "They had to cancel the women's discuss because of darkness, which hurt us. The strength of the women's team is our throws group."

Junior Marissa Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) was the highest scoring female WC athlete, scoring 11 points with a second-place finish in the shot put (13.37m) and a sixth-place finish in the hammer (43.23). Sophomore Lauren Stacy (Bethel, OH/Western Brown) finished third in the hammer (44.8m) and fifth in the shot put (12.65). Freshman Tara Karnes (Greenfield, OH/McClain) was fourth in the shot put (12.66m).

Senior Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem) scored in both hurdling events, finished third in the 400 hurdles (1:05.93) and placed fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.29).

"Sarah Murphy ran a season-best in the 400 hurdles, and looks great going into the OAC's," Combs added.

Senior Tricia Steffen (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union) finished second in the 3000 steeplechase (12:06.72) and sophomore Angela Dorsett (Pittsburgh, PA/West Mifflin) was sixth in the triple jump (9.78m).

Wilmington travels to Alliance, OH Friday and Saturday to compete in the 2015 Ohio Athletic Conference outdoor championships.
