AKRON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's swimming team had 10 individuals compete in consolation finals on day two of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Swimming & Diving Championships held at Ocasek Natatorium on Friday.
The Fightin' Quakers started Friday with three individuals in the 100-yard butterfly consolation final. Maryn Herring (1:03.87), Hannah Davis (1:04.46) and Kadie Grundy (1:08.10) finished third, fifth and eighth respectively. Macki Leon (2:01.88), who missed qualification for the finals by .01 seconds, Margaret Hover (2:02.79) and Rachel O'Donnell (2:08.83) all competed in the 200-yard freestyle consolation final after swimming the aforementioned times in the prelims. Leon finished second (2:01.58), Hover took fifth (2:03.17) and O'Donnell placed seventh (2:06.74).
The Quakers also put a quartet - Rebecca Curran, Kassidy Rogers, Ashley Boone and Shelbi Mays - in the consolation finals of the 100-yard breaststroke. Curren finished third (1:15.32), Rogers placed sixth (1:16.16), Boone finshed seventh (1:34.56) and Mays took eighth (1:37.69).
Wilmington's 200-yard medley relay squad of Grundy, Curran, Herring and Davis finished fifth with a time of 1:58.52. The Quakers' 800-meter freestyle relay team, comprised of Leon, Ellyse Herr, O'Donnell and Hover, also took fifth (8:22.55).
"We've had so many great performances over the last two days as we've worked all year to swim our best at this meet," Head Women's Swimming Coach Trip Breen said. "We still swam really well despite a little fatigue setting in on day two. That's a testament to the training they've put in and the toughness you need as we approach day three of the championships."
After two days, the Quakers sit in fifth place with 170 points. John Carroll University leads the women's championships with 554 points.
The final day of the 2019 OAC Swimming & Diving Championships begins tomorrow (Saturday) with prelims at 10 a.m.
