Women's Lacrosse Hosts Otterbein Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's lacrosse team will take on Otterbein University at home on Wednesday, April 11. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington is currently on a four-game skid and will be looking to get the first OAC win of the year. Otterbein is coming off a tough loss against the University Mount Union 24-6.

The Coaches: Taylor Martin is at the helm of Wilmington College in her first season. Martin spent her last two years as a graduate assistant at Castleton University where she received her master's degree in Athletic Leadership. Prior to her time at Castleton, Martin was the director of Lacrosse and Head Coach at a boarding school north of London. Martin competed for Berry College and started all four years as the goalie. Stephani Schmidt enters her sixth season as head women's lacrosse coach, initially joining Otterbein in 2010 before coaching the team's inaugural season in the spring of 2012. The Cardinals quickly began to improve under Schmidt, moving from five wins in 2012, to eight wins in 2013, before a 12-5 campaign in 2014. She was voted by her peers as the inaugural Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Coach of the Year in 2014.

The Players: Wilmington's offense has been led by Becca Petra so far this season. On the season, Petra has scored 16 goals and six assists. Rachel Reinhart has accumulated 14 points this season, scoring 11 goals and three assists. Defensively, Wilmington is led by Goalie Meghan Wieloch who has picked up 143 saves on the season while Hannah Gratsch and Abby Engelhart have picked up 30 and 31 ground balls, respectively. Otterbein is led by the duo of Abby Smoot and Cameron Finnegan who have combined for 76 goals on the season. Finnegan also has a team-high 28 caused turnovers this season. In goal, Allison Rhoads has a record of 5-2 with 55 saves this season.
