Women's Lacrosse Opens OAC Play at Mount Union Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's lacrosse team will compete in Alliance, Ohio this Saturday. The Quakers will take on the Purple Raiders of the University of Mount Union in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener for both teams at 1 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington is coming off an impressive and decisive win against Earlham College on Wednesday evening, improving its record to 2-5 overall. Mount Union has started off the season undefeated winning all six contests.

The Coaches: Taylor Martin is at the helm of Wilmington College in her first season. Martin is coming off her second career coaching win, against Earlham College. Martin spent her last two years as a graduate assistant at Castleton University where she received her master's degree in Athletic Leadership. Prior to her time at Castleton, Martin was the director of Lacrosse and Head Coach at a boarding school north of London. Martin competed for Berry College and started all four years as the goalie. Emily Fisher is the first-ever women's lacrosse coach at Mount Union and the team enters its sixth season in 2017-18. Fisher has had a dynamic start to her college coaching career as she led the Purple Raiders to a 78-13 record over the last five seasons with four Ohio Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles along with four trips to the NCAA Tournament.

The Players: Wilmington's offense has been led by Becca Petra so far this season. On the season, Petra has scored 13 goals and four assists. Rachel Reinhart has accumulated 11 points this season, scoring eight goals and three assists. Defensively, Wilmington is led by Goalie Meghan Wieloch who has picked up 81 saves on the season while Hannah Gratsch and Abby Engelhart have picked up 21 and 26 ground balls, respectively. Mount Union's offense is led by a trio of players, Ashley Bernardi, Marjie McNamara, and Danielle Rohorman. Together they have combined for 71 goals in just six games. Britt Klosterman leads the defense with a team-high 11 caused turnovers on the season. Goalie, Mimi Curtis is undefeated on the year while totaling 21 saves with just 15 goals allowed.
