Women's Lacrosse Defeated at Hiram

Story by Tim O'Brien

HIRAM, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's lacrosse team lost Wednesday night 20-5 at Hiram College in the second of a four-game road swing.

The Terriers came out of the gates quick this evening scoring seven straight goals in the first half. Wilmington answered with two straight goals of their own by Hannah Gratsch and Rachel Brown. Hiram went on another run this time scoring three straight goals. Nearing the end of the half, Wilmington's Kara Griffith and Kelly Angevine put in two additional goals. At the half, the Quakers found themselves behind by a score of 10-4.

The second half was a similar story for the Terriers getting off to a quick start scoring eight straight goals before Wilmington was able to answer back. Brooke Gibbons was able to get the Quakers on the board in the second half but not before the Terriers were able to add two additional goals. Wilmington lost by a score of 20-5.

Wilmington's offense was led by five different Quakers that all scored one goal each. Defensively, Becca Petra picked up nine ground balls and was able to force two turnovers. Goalie Megan Wieloch had 13 saves on the evening.

Wilmington (1-5) will travel to Earlham College on Wednesday March 21 for another competition of the Quaker Bowl. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
