Women's Lacrosse Opens 2018 Season at Kalamazoo on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's lacrosse team travels to Kalamazoo College for the season-opening non-conference game on Saturday afternoon. The game is slated for a 3 p.m. start.

The Teams: The preseason coaches' poll came out last week where Wilmington was ranked eighth place in the conference. Wilmington finished the season last year with a 2-14 record and 1-7 record in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play. The Quakers will face Kalamazoo for the first time in history. Kalamazoo will be opening its season as well with Wilmington this year.

The Coaches: Taylor Martin will begin her first season at the helm of the Wilmington women's lacrosse program.  Martin spent her last two years as a graduate assistant at Castleton University where she received her master's degree in Athletic Leadership. Prior to her time at Castleton, Martin was the director of Lacrosse and Head Coach at a boarding school north of London.  Martin competed for Berry College and started all four years as the goalie. Kalamazoo is led by Jessica Smith.  Smith has been the head coach since December of 2015. 

The Players: Wilmington will be led by senior Becca Petra and sophomores, Rachel Brown and Hannah Gratsch.  The trio amounted 44 points last season accounting for 46% of last season's points. In goal, Wilmington will be led by junior Megan Wieloch. Wieloch totaled 164 saves last season and will play a major role on the defensive side of the ball for the Quakers. Kalamazoo will be returning a pair of juniors,Amanda Moss and Caroline Mundell which combined for a total of 58 points last season
