WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team opens its 2020 season with a five-day, 10-game trip to the west side of the state of Florida this coming weekend/week.

The Schedule: Wilmington will face two teams each day for five consecutive days from March 8-12. The schedule for the week, which can also be viewed in the graphic above, is as follows: Kenyon College and Curry College on March 8, Anna Maria University and Alfred State University on March 9, Nazareth College and Elms College on March 10, SUNY-Oneonta and Rochester Institute of Technology on March 11 and SUNY-Brockport and Rockford College on March 12.

The Coach: Beth Floyd is in her 13th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and is also the College's associate director of athletics. Floyd has led the Quakers to seven double-digit win campaigns as well as the program's two winning campaigns in the OAC era (20-16 in 2013 and 18-14 in 2019).

The Hitters: Wilmington returns all but one hitting that tallied over a .300 average with at least 20 at bats last season. Haley Suchland, an All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) honoree last year, hit a .410 clip to go along with seven doubles and a team-high 21 RBIs. KenDahl Bowles was the other Wilmington individual to drive in 20 runs.

The Pitchers: The Quakers did not graduate a pitcher off of last year's team and return All-OAC honoree Grace Shell to headline the bunch. She led the team in innings pitched with 110 to go along with a 2.42 ERA and 89 strikeouts. The Sidney High School alumna also finished the year with 10 victories. All of those statistical marks are top 10 in program history. Suchland and Alexis Stringfellow both also logged over 25-plus innings for WC.

Last Two Florida Trips: The Fort Myers and Naples area has been kind to the Quakers in the last two seasons. Wilmington finished 8-2 on its spring trip last season and returned to Ohio with a 6-2 record in 2018.
