Alin Breaks Program Record in 200-IM at OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Wilmington College men's swimming team opened the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Swimming & Diving Championships by competing in five events on Thursday.

Isak Alin was the top individual performer for the Fightin' Quakers as he qualified for the finals of the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:57.14. That mark broke the school record of Jason Keith (1:57.58) which stood for 19 years. He followed up that performance with a sixth-place finish in the evening finals with a time of 1:57.55. Frederick Rankin (2:04.36) and Ian Darras (2:10.95), who both earned spots in the consolation final of the event, finished sixth (2:05.76) and eighth (2:07.83) respectively.

Aaron Polk (5:02.70) and Samuel Shanes (5:20.56) earned spots in the 500-yard freestyle consolation final where Polk took sixth with a time of 5:00.53 and Shanes finished in eighth place with a mark of 5:15.41.

Wilmington's 200-yard freestyle relay finished fourth as Logan Schroer, Mac Warncke, Lawrence Daya and Alin posted a time of 1:30.99. Daya, Schroer and Alin then teamed up with Rankin for a 3:38.34 time in the 400-yard medley relay and a fifth place finish.

As a team, the Quakers are in fourth place with 79 team points after day one. Defending champion John Carroll University is on top with 257 team points.

Action from day two of the championships begins with the prelims of the 200-yard medley relay at 10 a.m. Friday.
