Von Thomas

Von Thomas enters his third season on the Wilmington College football coaching staff in 2023. He currently serves as the program's defensive line coach after a two-yera stint as running backs coach.

During the 2022 season, he, alongside Head Coach Corey Fillipovich led WC to a 3-1 start to the season with victories coming over Southern Virginia University, Capital University and Otterbein University. The only loss was a 13-12 defeat to Baldwin Wallace University, which went on to finish the season with a 7-3 record. The start marked WC's best since 2000, its first year in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Five individuals earned postseason awards including Itika Wynn Jr., Ace Taylor and Brandon Lemley garnering Second Team All-OAC recognition. Additionally, eight players were named Academic All-District from College Sports Communicators.

During the 2021 campaign, Thomas aided Acting Head Coach Corey Fillipovich to two wins to end the season including a 24-21 win over Capital University on Senior Day and a 37-33 triumph in the season finale at Otterbein University.

In his first season, Thomas helped navigate a unique 2021 spring season that featured two come-from-behind wins last in the fourth quarter. Itika Wynn Jr. and Ace Taylor garnered All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) honors.

Thomas came to Wilmington from Geneva College where he worked as a graduate assistant coach on the offensive and defensive line while taking courses for a Master's degree. With the Golden Tornados, Thomas coached both lines as well as coordinated the defensive scout team. Prior to Geneva, Thomas worked for a season at nearby Waynesville High School. He was a four-year member of Bluffton University's football program and a two-year starter. Thomas graduated from Bluffton in 2019 with a degree in history.

He resides in Wilmington.
