WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College football team continues its quest for an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory as the Fightin' Quakers travel to the University of Mount Union for a 1:30 p.m. contest on Saturday.
The Teams: Wilmington and Mount Union. The Quakers are 1-3 overall and 0-3 in OAC competition after losing to Heidelberg University 44-13 on Saturday. The Purple Raiders, the defending national champions, are 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the OAC after defeating Otterbein University 56-14 on Saturday.
The Coaches: Bryan Moore, a 1999 graduate of Hiram College, begins his second season leading Wilmington's football program. Moore began instilling his vision on WC last year which led to victories over Earlham and Capital. Previously, he spent time at both Bluffton University and Heidelberg University. Vince Kehres, the former Mount Union head football coach and current director of athletics Larry Kehres, is in his sixth season as head coach of his alma mater. The Purple Raiders have gone 70-4 during that stretch with two national championships.
The Offense: Kyle Barrett guides the Wilmington offense as he averages over 250 yards per game through the air along with throwing for nine touchdowns. DJ Chambers and Aaron Johnston have both rushed 31 times for over 100 yards on the season while a trio of Quakers – Ace Taylor, Zayne Hart and Luke Richardson – have all caught at least 10 passes. Richardson leads the team in touchdown receptions with three. D'Angelo Fulford has thrown for a dozen touchdowns and averages 228 yards per game for Mount Union. Josh Petruccelli and Fulford have both scored two touchdowns on the ground while Justin Hill has hauled in 22 receptions for 348 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Purple Raiders' receiving core.
The Defense: Tre'Quez Parks leads Wilmington defensively with 29 tackles for an average of 7.3 per contest. Weston Trampler, who has 21 tackles on the season, leads the team with four sacks while Parks and Dusty Lykins both have interceptions for Wilmington. Trey Williams and Mitch O'Hara both have over 20 tackles to lead the Mount Union defense. The duo has combined for five sacks while O'Hara, Andrew Roesch and Austin White all have interceptions.
