Football Opens OAC Play at Ohio Northern Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College football team opens Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play at Ohio Northern University (ONU) on Saturday. Kickoff from Dial-Robertson Stadium is slated for 1:30 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Ohio Northern. The Fightin' Quakers, who are coming off a bye week, stand at 1-0 overall after defeating Earlham College 49-7 in the Quaker Bowl Rivalry on Sept. 1. The Polar Bears are 2-0 and 1-0 in the OAC after defeating Muskingum University 42-14 last Saturday.

The Coaches: Bryan Moore, a 1999 graduate of Hiram College, begins his second season leading Wilmington's football program. Moore began instilling his vision on WC last year which led to victories over Earlham and Capital. Previously, he spent time at both Bluffton University and Heidelberg University. Dean Paul, a 1990 graduate of the University of Mount Union (then Mount Union College), is in his 15th season as head coach at ONU.

The Offense: Kyle Barrett guides the Wilmington offense as he finished 13-of-16 for 294 yards and two touchdowns in his first collegiate start against Earlham. DJ Chambers rushed for 73 yards and two scores while Jordan Harris and Luke Richardson have both caught touchdown passes for the Quakers. Anthony McFadden has averaged 177.5 yards per game through the air along with throwing four touchdown passes. McFadden is also ONU's leading rusher as he averages over eight yards per carry. Brock Martin has found the end zone five times in 29 carries for the Polar Bears.

The Defense: Weston Trampler tallied three sacks in his collegiate debut at Earlham two weeks ago for Wilmington's defensive unit. Aaron Volle led the way with six tackles while Kyle Ackley and Steve Broussard joined Trampler in making five tackles. Dusty Lykins also tallied an interception for the Quakers. Mark Niles and David Haselau have combined for 48 tackles for ONU's defense through two contests.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 49.0, ONU 38.0, points per game allowed – Wilmington 7.0, ONU 15.5, yards per game – Wilmington 496.0, ONU 390.0, yards per game allowed – Wilmington 168.0, ONU 364.0, passing yards per game – Wilmington 301.0, ONU 177.5, passing yards per game allowed – Wilmington 93.0, ONU 190.0, rushing yards per game – Wilmington 195.0, ONU 212.5, rushing yards per game allowed – Wilmington 75.0, ONU 174.0.

Series History: Wilmington has not beaten Ohio Northern since the College joined NCAA Division III prior to the 1990 season. Last year's matchup, however, was a 49-45 contest at Williams Stadium. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
