Baseball Hosts Alma For Weekend Series

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team hosts Alma College for a three-game series at Tewksbury-Delaney Field this weekend.

The Schedule: Wilmington and Alma will play a twinbill beginning at noon on Saturday followed by a single game at noon on Sunday.

The Teams: Wilmington and Alma. The Fightin' Quakers, at 0-5, are still in search of their first win of the year after falling 9-0 at Earlham College on Tuesday evening. The Scots are 5-6 thus far this season after going 3-2 over their spring break trip to Florida to end the month of February.

The Coaches: The 2020 season continues the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his second season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. Jason Crain, a 1995 alumnus of Alma, enters his third season as head coach in 2020.

The Hitters: The Quakers' offense has struggled through five games this season, hitting a .178 clip as a team. Caleb Scott has seven hits and a .389 batting average to go along with a home run. Nick Silvis, Austin Turner and Luke Kleindl also have extra base hits for Wilmington. Logan Huff leads Alma in power categories with six home runs and 20 RBIs. Joshua Robinson and Pete Carravallah both carry over a .450 batting average. For the Scots, both Aaron Saenz and Dylan Dzendzel have logged over 15 innings. Dzendzel has 23 strikeouts and three victories while Saenz has a 4.50 ERA.

The Pitchers: Luke Chappie has been effective for Wilmington in two starts this season. Though he doesn't yet have a victory, the Clinton-Massie alumnus carries a 3.75 ERA in 12 innings pitched to go along with eight strikeouts. Cameron Harbert has a perfect ERA in 3.1 innings pitched in relief.

Series History: Wilmington has not played Alma in the last decade.
