RICHMOND, Indiana – The Wilmington College baseball team had a sluggish offensive game in a 9-0 defeat at the hands of Earlham College in a Quaker Bowl Rivalry game at Randal R. Sadler Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Fightin' Quakers' defense turned a double play in the bottom of the first, but the Hustlin' Quakers struck for three runs on three hits in the bottom of the second. Wilmington threatened to plate a run in the fourth reaching via an error and a single, but consecutive attempted steals failed. Wilmington starter Lance Fleischman kept the hosts off the scoreboard until the fifth inning when a passed ball scored a fourth run. Jacob Griehwahn relieved Fleischman and pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh innings, but things unraveled in the eight as Earlham plated five runs to ensure a victory.

Fleischman took the loss allowing three earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts in five innings pitched. Aidan Talarek earned the win for Earlham allowing three hits and tallying nine strikeouts in 5.2 innings. The hosts relief did not allow a hit over the final 3.1 innings.

Wilmington finished with three hits as a team, all of which were singles. Gavin Perkins, Caleb Scott and Joe Legin all had a single hit while Luke Kleindl drew a walk. Earlham had 10 hits and three individuals – Isaiah Shake, Brian Pincura and Sam Sprockett – who had multi-hit games.

Wilmington (0-5) will return to action on Thursday for a 3 p.m. home contest against Franklin College.
