Baseball Hosts Elmhurst for Home-Opener on Sunday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College baseball team hosts Elmhurst College for a home-opening doubleheader on Sunday (note the day change). First pitch from Dayton Christian High School (note the venue change) is scheduled for noon.

The Teams: Wilmington and Elmhurst. The Fightin' Quakers enter the game 0-3 after falling in three games in Carbondale, Illinois, over the weekend. The Blue Jays have yet to play a game in 2020, but finished last year's campaign with an 11-27 overall record.

The Coaches: The 2020 season continues the new era for Wilmington College baseball team as the head coach Tony Vittorio starts his second season in charge of the program. He most recently served as the head coach at the University of Dayton for 18 seasons. Joe Southern is in his 14th season as Elmhurst's head baseball coach.

The Hitters: Both Caleb Scott and Luke Kleindl have hit over a .300 clip for Wilmington through three games. Both also have three hits and an RBI each. Scott has scored both of the squad's runs and has a home run. Aaron Burns, Nick Silvis and Gavin Perkins all have two hits for the Quakers. A trio of Bluejays – Drew Raspolich, Larenzo Farino and Jordan Scrimpsher – all return for 2020 having hit over a .320 clip a season ago. Scrimpsher led the squad in RBIs with 34.

The Pitchers: Luke Chappie, in his first collegiate start, earned a quality start going 6.1 innings and allowing only two earned runs. Kleindl, who also started a game, pitched 5.1 innings and carries a 3.38 ERA while Matt Oney and Cameron Harbert both have perfect ERAs having pitched in relief. Scrimpsher was also Elmhurst's best pitcher in 2019, carrying a 3.40 ERA and a 3-2 record in nearly 40 innings pitched.

Series History: Wilmington has not played Elmhurst in the last decade.
