The Wilmington College baseball team stepped away from Ohio Athletic Conference Tuesday, splitting a doubleheader with Wright State-Lake at Tewksbury-Delaney Field.
GAME ONE: WILMINGTON 11, WRIGHT STAKE LAKE 1
Wilmington scored 10 of the 11 runs over the first three innings as the Fightin' Quakers posted the run-ruled six-inning victory over Wright State Lake.
Sophomore Jared Ferenchak, 2-4, (Concord, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) earned the victory, allowing one earned run on four hits in five innings of action. He rung up four strikeouts with two walks.
The Fightin' Quakers sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring five runs on five hits. The inning was aided by two Lakers errors enabling four of the five runs to be unearned. WC added an unearned run in the second inning and pushed across four in the third.
Junior Joshua Chua (Lancaster, England/Claremont [CA]) brought the game to a screeching halt with his solo homerun to start the sixth inning. He finished 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI.
Every Wilmington starter recorded a hit as the Fightin' Quakers finished with 12 hits on the day. Sophomore Jake Hyatt (Madeira, OH/Madeira) was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored, and sophomore Jarett Trautman (Hartville, OH/Field) added a 2-for-3 day with a double, one run scored and an RBI.
Junior Kyle Short (Trenton, OH/Edgewood) drove in a pair of runs for the Fightin' Quakers.
GAME TWO: WRIGHT STATE LAKE 14, WILMINGTON 5
In his first career appearance on the mound, Chua struggled – allowing five earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks in one inning as Wilmington fell to the Lakers, 14-5.
The early runs seemed to energize the visitors, and a seven-run fifth really gave them some breathing room.
Wilmington managed seven hits in the game, and junior Daniel Hayes (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) recorded three of them. He was 3-for-3 with a double, run scored an RBI.
Bley added a double, and Chua hit his second homerun of the day. Sophomore Lane Stevenson (Brookville, IN/Brookville) and Trautman added RBIs.
