Quakerman participates in Mascot Derby

CINCINNATI – A bunch of area mascots, including Wilmington’s Quakerman, came together for a good cause recently.

For the third straight year, the ROSIE Reds have partnered with the Reds mascots for a Mascot Home Run Derby to benefit Best Buddies & the Miracle League baseball organization.  Each mascot was paired with a "buddy" who was on the field with the mascot.  Other kids and adults were on the field shagging balls.

This year’s event, which drew nearly 400 people of all ages, was hosted at the Dunham Recreational Miracle League Field – which is geared for special needs children and adults. It’s a rubberized field that includes a hitting machine available that wheelchair bound kids can activate to swing a bat.

Quakerman took home third place, while the University of Cincinnati’s Bearcat won the event and Gapper – from the Cincinnati Reds – took second place.

Each winning mascot presented their "buddy" with a home run trophy and a gift package provided by the Cincinnati Reds.  The Rosie Reds also donated 2 Cincinnati Reds tickets to each participating mascot.
