Durr, who has been an assistant coach for the last four seasons, takes the reins from Head Coach Ron Combs, who has been the College's head track & field coach for a quarter century. Combs won't be going far, however, as he will remain head cross country coach and transition to assistant track & field coach.
Sadie Devore, Molly Hafer, Abby Lodewyck, Megan Roell and Kylee Schafer garnered Academic All-District honors and will be on the ballot for a chance at becoming an Academic All-American.
Academic All-Conference selections have at least a cumulative 3.5 grade-point average (GPA) at the end of the semester preceding the end of the spring season and be a sophomore academically or above. The student-athlete must also be a member of a varsity team, in a sport sponsored by the league, as well as be enrolled in a full-time capacity.
Kiwanis is an international service organization dedicated to helping kids locally and around the world. The Wilmington club has been actively helping kids for 40 years and the international group has been working for 100-plus years. Wilmington Kiwanis sponsors the East Clinton, Clinton-Massie and Wilmington Key Clubs. It also sponsors two soccer tournaments at Wilmington College, awards a $1,000 scholarship to a student at Wilmington College or Southern State along with many other things.
AJ Houseman was the top Quaker to finish, placing 217th with a time of 27:01.2. Teammates Kaitlyn Rauch and Julia Bystrom were not far behind as Rauch finished the six-kilometer course in 27:36.5 and Bystom turning in a mark of 28:03.8.
Junior Milena Wahl paced the Wilmington College women's cross country team with a fourth-place finish (19:11.2) at the ninth annual JennaStrong Classic on Friday evening. As a team, the Fightin' Quakers placed 12th-of-16 teams that finished with a team score.
The Wilmington College women's cross country team has been tabbed to place finish by the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) coaches as the league released its annual preseason poll on Friday.
