Women's Cross Country Heads to NCAA Great Lakes Regional at Franklin Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's cross country team will compete in the 2018 Division III NCAA Great Lakes Regional hosted by Franklin College on Saturday.

The Race: The six kilometer race will take place at Blue River Cross Country Course in Shelbyville, Indiana and is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

The Teams: All NCAA Division III institutions from Ohio, Indiana and Michigan will compete in the meet.

The Coach: Ron Combs is in his 23rd season as head cross country coach at Wilmington College. A 1993 graduate of Wilmington, Combs was a member of the only cross country team to win a conference title in school history. Also the head track & field coach at the College, Combs led the Fightin' Quakers to two top-10 finishes nationally with a sixth place finish at the 2002 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships and a seventh place mark at the 2004 Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Runners: The last race for the Quakers was the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship meet on Oct. 27 where Katie Hughes finished 45th for the Quakers with a time of 25:42.6. Savannah Rhodes followed with a time of 26:02.7, while McKenzie Hamm (28:53.1), Kelly Rice (29:08.0) and Kendra Stahl (29:17.3) rounded out the top five for Wilmington.

Recent History: In 2017 Allison Helmke lead the Quakers with a time of 26:04.7 to finish 166th. McKenzie Hamm ran a time of 28:09.3 good enough for 218th.
