Hughes The Top Fightin' Quaker for Women's Cross Country at OAC Championships

HARTVILLE, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's cross country team finished eighth at the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Women's Cross Country Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union at Sable Creek Golf Course on Saturday.

The Fightin' Quakers finished with 249 points, 19 ahead of Capital University. Otterbein University won the OAC Championship with 59 points. Baldwin Wallace University, Mount Union and John Carroll University all finished within 10 points of the Cardinals.

Katie Hughes was the top Wilmington finisher, placing 45th by finishing the six-kilometer course in 25:42.6. Savannah Rhodes was the next Quaker to finish, crossing the line in 53rd place with a time of 26:02.7. Wilmington rounded out its top with with the trio of Quakers - McKenzie Hamm (28:53.1), Kelly Rice (29:08.0) and Kendra Stahl (29:17.3) - finished 101st, 102nd and 103rd respectively.

"Today's conditions were tough, but Katie [Hughes] and Savannah [Rhodes] both rann well as freshmen," Head Women's Cross Country Coach Ron Combs said. "I'm exicted to see what our young group of women can do going forward."

Claire Lamb of Otterbein claimed her third consecutive OAC title individually, running the six-kilometer course in 22:05.1. 

Wilmington has a week off before competing in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional hosted by Franklin College on Nov. 10.
