Women's Cross Country Heads to Earlham For Season-Opening Dual Meet Friday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's cross country team opens its 2018 season at the Quaker Dual Meet hosted by Earlham College on Aug. 31. The four-kilometer race is slated to begin at 6 p.m.

The Coach: Ron Combs is in his 23rd season as head cross country coach at Wilmington College. A 1993 graduate of Wilmington, Combs was a member of the only cross country team to win a conference title in school history. Also the head track & field coach at the College, Combs led the Fightin' Quakers to two top-10 finishes nationally with a sixth place finish at the 2002 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships and a seventh place mark at the 2004 Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Runners: Allison Helmke was the top Wilmington finisher at the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships, finishing in 75th place with a time of 26:14.2. McKenzie Hamm was the next Quaker to cross the finish line, doing so in 27:13.5 for a 91st place finish. Earlham is coming off a fourth place finish in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) as a team.
