Helmke leads @DubC_XCTR women in JennaStrong

The Wilmington College women's cross country team played host to the JennaStrong Fall Classic Friday afternoon. The annual meet honors fallen teammate Jenna Parlette who collapsed while in the lead of a race her junior year (2013). The event brought 32 teams, many individual runners, and various Wilmington alumni to Wilmington's campus this year. In the field, the Fightin' Quakers finished 28th- two spots ahead of last year.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sophomore Allison Helmke (Defiance, OH/Tinora) was the first Fightin' Quaker to cross the finish line. Her time of 22:10.3 in the 5K race earned her 142nd-place out of 300 runners.

  • Freshman Summer Doty (North Lewisburg, OH/Triad) posted a 22:49.8 to earn 173rd-place.

  • Sophomore Kelly Rice (Whitehouse, OH/Anthony Wayne) ran in for 227th-place with a time of 24:25.9.

  • Next in was sophomore Kayla Thornberry (McDermott, OH/Northwest). She crossed the finish line in 25:16.4 to earn 244th-place.

  • Freshman Miranda Gibson was the final scorer for the Fightin' Quakers this afternoon. She completed the race in 25:23.2 and earned 247th-place.

  • The Fightin' Quakers head to the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet hosted by Heidelberg University on Saturday, October 28.
