Volleyball Has Four Garner Academic All-District Honors

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College volleyball team had four individuals earn Academic All-District honors as the College Sports Communications (formerly known as CoSIDA) announced the honorees on Tuesday, Nov. 22. 

Sydney Geibel, Sofia Thomas, Blake O'Brien and Andie Dolven garnered Academic All-District honors and will be on the ballot for a chance at becoming an Academic All-American. In order to qualify for nomination for Academic All-District, student-athletes must meet the following qualifications:

  • Sophomore athletically or higher
  • 3.50 cumulative grade point average or higher
  • Been enrolled at the institution for at least one calendar year
  • Starter or key reserve

Geibel, a senior education major from Indianapolis, Indiana, played all six rotations as an outside hitter in her final season wearing the Green & White. She averaged 1.91 kills and 2.22 digs per set and notched double-digit kills in eight matches on the season.

Thomas, a junior business administration major from Florence, Kentucky, led Wilmington offensively with 229 kills on 809 swings for a .158 attack percentage and 2.44 kills per set. She tallied 10 or more kills in 13 matches during the 2022 season including a 17-kill effort against Marietta College on Oct. 14.

O'Brien, a junior exercise science major from St. Louis, Missouri, led the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) in digs (601) and digs per set (6.20) while finishing seventh in all of NCAA Division III in the digs per set category. She finished with double-digit digs in all but three matches and set a career high of 47 digs a in come from behind, five-set victory over Anderson University (Indiana) on Sept. 28. O'Brien became the first Quaker to earn All-OAC honors as she was named Second Team All-OAC.

Dolven, a sophomore communication arts and sport management double major from Wintergarden, Florida, led the WC offense form the setter position playing a 5-1 for the majority of the season. She averaged 7.72 assists per set and had 757 on the season.

Wilmington, under the direction of second-year Head Coach Sophie Windover, finished the season with a 9-19 overall record including a 2-7 mark in OAC matches. The Quakers nearly defeated perennial regional power Ohio Northern University, falling in five sets on the road, ended the year with the program's first victory over Heidelberg University.
