Volleyball Travels to John Carroll for Season Finale Saturday

SERIES HISTORY

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team is concluding its 2018 season with a match against John Carroll University (JCU) on Saturday. First serve for the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC)  is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. 

The Teams: Wilmington and JCU. The Fightin' Quakers are 8-19 overall and 1-7 in OAC competition after a four-set victory over Capital University. The Blue Streaks are 15-12 overall and 2-6 in OAC competition after losing four very close sets to Heidelburg University. 

The Coaches: Tim O'Brien enters his fourth year as Wilmington's head volleyball coach. He has improved the Quakers' wins total each of his first three seasons and is looking to break through in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) this season. A 2012 graduate of Siena Heights University, O'Brien was a four-year letter-winner for the Saints' men's volleyball, team and ranks in seven career and seasonal program records. John Carroll is coached by Michele Benoit as she is in her third season as head volleyball coach. 

The Players: Jillian Wesco and Karrah Wind have emerged as Wilmington's top two offensive threats has both average over 1.60 kills per set. A trio of Quakers – Mariella SzromTaylor McCuistion and Amber Rox – have chipped in offensively as all average over a kill per set. Jacie Koontz leads the setting duties with an average of 3.26 assists per set while Karley Schlensker leads the back row with 4.53 digs per set. A quartet of Blue Streaks - Brooke Hjerpe, Cassi Calamunci, and Sarah Calabrese- have chipped in greatly offensively averaging over 2.85 kills per set. 

OAC Losing Streak Snapped: The Quakers snapped a 59-match OAC losing streak with the four-set victory over Capital on Tuesday.
