ADA, Ohio – The Wilmington College volleyball team fell to No. 19 Ohio Northern University (ONU) in straight sets on Wednesday evening. The Polar Bears defeated the Fightin' Quakers 25-8, 25-11, 25-21 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action.

Ohio Northern took the first two sets convincingly, but Wilmington dug its feet into the match in set three. The Quakers took a 13-10 lead thanks to a kill from Karrah Wind and an ONU service error, but the hosts answered with a kill from Sydney Bapst and three consecutive Wilmington attack errors. Kills from Wind and Jillian Wesco gave the Quakers a 15-14 edge.

That lead would be the last Wilmington would have, however, as the Polar Bears won four consecutive points and would not relinquish the lead.

Ohio Northern finished the match with 41 kills and just nine attack errors for a .348 hitting percentage while Wilmington put down 22 kills compared to 20 errors and a .021 hitting percentage.

Wesco and Wind both had six kills for the Quakers while Mariella Szrom added five. Wesco also led Wilmington's back row with eight digs while Jacie Koontz dished out 11 assists.

Chelsea Huppert and Madi Ellis led ONU with nine and eight kills respectively. Kiki Carle dished out 22 assists in two sets while Katie Wade assisted on 11 kills in one set. McKenna Hostetler had 13 digs for the Polar Bears.

Wilmington dips to 5-16 overall and 0-4 in the OAC with the loss. ONU improves to 14-4 and 4-1 in conference play with the win.

The Quakers return home for a tri-match with Marietta College and Ohio University-Chillicothe on Saturday.
