Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match With Wins Over SMWC and Boyce

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College volleyball team established a three-match winning streak on Saturday, downing St. Mary-of-the-Woods College 3-2 (24-26, 25-21, 26-24, 24-26, 15-10) and Boyce College 3-0 (25-12, 25-8, 25-11) on homecoming weekend.

"It was great to be able to implement stuff we've been practicing effectively," Head Coach Tim O'Brien said. "Our big focus was defense and our blocking and back row play were excellent today."

In the victory over St. Mary-of-the-Woods (SMWC), Jillian Wesco led the Fightin' Quakers with 10 kills on 43 attack attempts while Mariella Szrom tallied nine kills on 33 attack attempts with just two error for a .212 attack percentage. Summer Wilbur and Jacie Koontz split the setting duties with 19 and 12 assists respectively.

Defensively, four Quakers - Wesco, Karley Schlensker, Koontz and Taylor McCuistion - all tallied at least 20 digs. Szrom led the front row with nine blocks including four solo blocks while Morgan Loomis had five blocks.

The Pomeroys' duo of McKenzie Kumpf and Gabriella Siagle combined for 28 kills while Mary Alvanos dished out 33 assists. Pamela Dorman led SMWC in digs with 26.

In the win over Boyce, Wilmington's second over the Bulldogs this month, McCuistion led the Quakers with eight kills on 18 attempts with two errors. Amber Rox chipped in five kills while Wesco had four. Schlensker and McCuistion combined for 31 digs in the back row while Wilbur led the team in assists with 11.

Jordan Gregory led the Bulldogs with six kills while Laura Yuille had five to go along with 11 assists. Tenly Milesky had 15 digs.

Wilmington (4-12) travels to the University of Cincinnati Clermont College on Tuesday before opening Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play at Heidelberg University next Saturday.
